Paradigm Shift

"Discovery consists of seeing what everyone else has seen
and thinking what nobody has thought."

Hi, friends!

I’m very excited to report that Idea Planet is taking on an internal paradigm shift as part of a corporate initiative to elevate our relevance and remain fresh and energized as a team.  This will encompass enhanced empowerment, mentoring leaders and investing in innovation. We’ve been blessed with amazing success as an organization since our inception, for which I credit our visionary clients and our very talented group of Planeteers, both stateside, and in Asia.

But (and to use another favorite cliché),

If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.

If you think about it, the reason our world keeps changing so rapidly is because someone is always challenging the status quo. This is inherent in our very nature. Think back to the days not so long ago when people believed the world existed only as far as they could see – so it must be flat! Our curiosity and innate problem solving are behind innovations as “simple” as the wheel and as complex as electricity and penicillin. And more recently, personal computing, cellular phones, augmented reality and – well, I could go on and on! Progress is, essentially, a paradigm shift.

For Idea Planet, creative, innovative thinking is so important, we made “idea” part of our name. In fact, one of our mantras is turning “ideas into reality.” Our clients rely on us for unique concepts and “never-been-done-before” collectibles and kids’ toys. Perspectives that are upside-down, inside-out, backwards and caddywampus should be the norm for us. Otherwise, we’ll lose our ability to upend the expected and elicit the ever coveted, “WOW” from our fans.

So, as a business, we have a choice. We can either stay the same, or we can evolve. We can remain where we are, or we can leapfrog ahead. It’s really a simple decision. But I must tell you, it’s not always easy to execute. Why? Because in a company environment, it is easier do things in the same manner, the same way. And frankly, most people resist change. Generally speaking, people are comfortable with what they know and only alter their routines and habits when forced to – or when the pain of not changing outweighs the pain of making the change. People must believe there’s a valuable benefit from “a new way” of doing things before they’re willing to make the effort.

As Idea Planet embarked on our own change journey, I realized that change must be a continuous state of mind, and we must push ourselves to think and rethink how we approach challenges. This is paramount to success of any organization.

I ran across this interesting blog that resonated with me and provided inspiration and impetus for continuing the effort. From one entrepreneur to another, from one business owner to another, I hope it does the same for you.
